A Nomade in Paris
During a rare opportunity afforded to very few Australian couturiers, Melbourne designer Aleem Yusuf unveiled 12 looks from his Autumn/Winter 2019-20 couture collection Nomade on Wednesday 3 July 2019 for Paris Fashion Week.
While the official schedule comprises mainstays of the revered event, including notable fashion houses Chanel, Dior and Givenchy, the off-schedule is reserved for up-and-coming designers carefully selected by the governing body for the French fashion industry, The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. “It’s a couturier’s dream come true to be on the official schedule,” Yusuf says. “But even on this other calendar, it’s still a very special opportunity.” Inspired by two distinct phases of his life, the collection takes cues from his childhood surrounded by the vivid turmeric golds and lush purples of Pakistan’s bazaars, followed by his adult life in Australia, with its deep blue oceans contrasting the reds of the desert sands.
‘A Nomade in Paris’ was published in the thirtieth issue of Melbourne Wedding & Bride.
